What Our Members Say

"I was a very broken and fragile kitesurfing beginner when I first came to Greatstone, and Sylwia changed my life. Without her I would have packed up my kite, taken my confidence-lacking self home, and never gone out again. My previous instructor had left me physically ready but emotionally broken. Sylwia saved me from that — she took the time to make sure I got on the water even when the wind gave up on us. Kitesurfing has become my water therapy, and I owe that to her and this community."

— Sara, London

"Kitesurfing isn't just a hobby — it's a lifeline. A source of freedom, joy, therapy and connection that has transformed me in ways I never imagined. Each time I harness the wind and glide across the water I'm reminded of the beauty of the present moment. But perhaps the most precious gift has been the sense of community — a tribe of kindred spirits who share a passion for adventure and the outdoors. We've laughed, learned, and supported each other through every wipeout and triumph."

— Pati, Ashford

"I joined a couple of coaching sessions focused on jumping and really enjoyed both. In my first Girls Kite Together session I cracked how to take off reliably — plus my first jump transitions! Pawel and Sylwia always give really clear instructions, focusing on the one or two things to work on next. It's always fun and supportive — and when it's all women it's even better. The shallow water at Greatstone is a real bonus when you're trying something new."

— Leyla, Digital Nomad

Women Kitesurfing at Greatstone, Kent

Greatstone beach in Kent is one of the best spots in the UK for learning to kitesurf — flat, shallow water, consistent south-westerly winds, and a welcoming stretch of sand that suits beginners and experienced riders alike. For women, it has become something special: a place where our Girls Kite Together community has grown into one of the most supportive women's kitesurfing groups in the country.

Women kitesurfing as a proportion of the sport is growing fast — but it's still male-dominated, and many women tell us the dynamic of a mixed group can hold them back, especially in the early stages. Our women-only sessions change that. With female coaching from Sylwia and a group of riders who genuinely cheer each other on, we've seen women progress faster, stay longer on the water, and fall in love with the sport in a way they didn't expect.

Whether you've never held a kite bar, or you've been riding for years and want to push your level in an environment where nobody makes you feel silly for asking questions — Girls Kite Together at Greatstone is for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is kitesurfing good for women?

Absolutely. Kitesurfing is a full-body sport that builds core strength, balance and coordination — and it doesn't depend on upper body power as much as people assume. The kite does the heavy lifting; technique and timing matter far more than brute strength. Many of our members say it's the most empowering physical challenge they've taken on, and the mental health benefits — time on the water, focus, community — are just as significant.

Can women learn to kitesurf at any age?

Yes. We have members in their 20s, 40s and 50s learning alongside each other. The progression curve is different for everyone, but age is rarely the limiting factor. Confidence, patience and having the right coaching make far more difference.

Are there women-only kitesurfing lessons in Kent?

Yes — Girls Kite Together sessions at Greatstone are run specifically for women, with female-led coaching from Sylwia. We run group sessions throughout the season as well as one-to-one lessons. Get in touch to find out what's coming up.

What makes Greatstone a good place to learn to kitesurf?

Greatstone has shallow, flat water that stretches a long way out — ideal when you're learning, as you can stand up easily if you need a break or want to regroup with your instructor. The beach is uncrowded compared to many UK kitesurfing spots, the wind is consistent, and it's within easy reach of London, Ashford and the wider South East.

How long does it take a woman to learn to kitesurf?

Most people are riding independently within 9–12 hours of lessons, though it varies. Having the right conditions — consistent wind, shallow water — and the right coaching makes a big difference. Women-only sessions tend to work particularly well because the learning environment is more relaxed: members ask more questions, make more mistakes without self-consciousness, and progress faster as a result.
